The origins of the mill in Meran/Merano bring us to Germany, where the family von Berg operated a mill already 600 years ago. Since its foundation in 1985, the mill in Lana has been characterized by its particular passion for all kinds of cereals. The selection of flours and cereals, partially gluten-free and organic, is made using highly modern machinery and is subject to strict controls in order to provide high quality products to its customers – industrial companies, bakeries and end consumers. The organic flours are produced in a separate mill. Special emphasis is placed on the cultivation of old varieties and the research and development of new products. Furthermore, since 1996 organic feed from corn, oats, barley, rye and wheat has been produced at the plant in Lana.
Regiokorn. Grain from South Tyrol
Participation in the "Regiokorn" project results in an annual yield of approx. 300 tonnes of grain, currently rye, spelled and barley, from a total of 50 farmers on 82 hectares of cultivated land. Regiokorn strengthens the network between farmers, the mill and more than 40 bakeries in the region by reviving the cultivation of crops, sharing knowledge and preserving old crops.
Last year, in 2018, the Farinarium opened in Lana, a shop with a large selection of flours and cereals. The aim of the Farinarium is to show the importance of cereals to visitors and interested parties through baking courses and workshops and to convey diversity and quality, in short: to promote our bread culture.
